An overall master plan was developed to recapture the spirit of this urban park like housing complex located in the prestigious hills of Riverdale, New York. The creation of two separate parks on this elevated site allows the different type of users, ranging from toddlers to senior citizen, to enjoy the majestic setting nestled in the urban environment. Connecting sidewalks, handicap ramps and accessible trails bring this network of spaces together creating a unified compound.
The Pavilion Park, which is nestled between the two buildings, allows for a more tranquil park experience while the toddler play park at the highest point of the site provides for the child play, the gather of parents and facilitates the need for outdoor activities.
The Co-Op, which rest among the city blocks, takes advantage of these uniquely shaped open spaces, the desire for outdoor recreation and creates the heart of their own community. Special attention was placed upon developing ideas for the special interest groups that had a strong desire for naturalistic walks, planting gardens and charming strolls along the city edge.
